Petitioner's Opinions To Support For A Call For Fibroid Research & Education Act.

2269.  L.A Adelaide I would like more research into myomectomy treatment options for women over 50. It seems this procedure is hardly ever offed or performed on women who have passed their fertile years. \"If you are not going to have any more children, then you don\'t need your uterus\", seems to be the thinking. However, I do think I need my uterus. It has other functions in the body apart from bearing children and needs to valued. I think it is pretty appalling that so many women should have a major organ removed for a benign condition. We need more data on myomectomy for older women.
2268.  P.W Neasden, London
2267.  J.D GOSPORT This is a common problem that so many women suffer. In my experience gynaecologists that i have seen just push for the cheap easy option for the NHS and tell you that a Hysterectomy is your best treatment (best for who i ask). Certainly not for me as i have educated myself on this. We are in the 21st century is this still the best we can offer women .
2266.  J.O London As a fibroid suffer in my opinion there isn\'t engouh research for treatment. I had to have a total hysterectomy at the end due to constant blooding and unbearable pain. I would have lost my job if I was a new member of staff. I felt there wasn\'t engouh support or information when I needed it. This is a silent nightmare for women. A lot of women can\'t have kids because of this horrible thing.
2264.  K.H Swindon I feel strongly that there should be more research. I have suffered 4 miscarriages and my last was twins I thought it was over but I ended up bleeding so much I needed a blood transfusion and a hysteroscopy and they removed the fibroid. There is not alot of research on this and since the procedure i have had nothing but pain.

2255.  H.E Warwick I have fibroids and had an extreme episode a few months ago. I ended up having 2 units of blood. It was very frightening. So confusing about treatment options but do not want a hysterectomy! Was annoyed with mainly male doctors attitude that I should just have a hysterectomy. We need more research on management and treatment. I don't want anymore children but plan to keep my uterus thank you. I have been on Esmya and hopefully all good. Just want to not have that happen again and be managed non surgically.

2251.  K.T Stanway, Colchester I support all of the women that demand more research into this health condition. It's causes, and better treatment than cutting the body that impacts upon other systems in the body. Including the immune system. Nutrition of those women, also has to be looked into. We are aware that doctors are receiving four hours of nutrition medical training, clearly, it is not enough. The NHS provides no advice to pre-menopausal women, during menopause or afterwards. What we do know is that menopausal women have to treble their iron intake during the menopause, and should do prior to it.
